Job Description

Job Functions

  • The Rector is the academic and administrative head and the chief disciplinary officer of the University.
  • The Rector is the Chief Executive Officer of the University and is responsible and accountable to the governing council for organising and conducting the academic, financial, and administrative businesses of the University, as well as ensuring the efficiency of the University. All other functions of the rector are as prescribed by the statutes of the University terms of appointment.
  • The Rector is charged with the responsibility of initiating new directions in academic development of the University to achieve its vision, mission, academic excellence fiscal soundness, market visibility and competitiveness.


Required Skills or Experience

  • A candidate seeking appointment as Foundation Rector for the University must;
  • Possess a terminal degree (PhD etc).
  • Be an internationally acclaimed academic and or a distinguished scholar.
  • Have a proven track record of motivating, managing, and directing staff and faculty.
  • Have rich administrative experience.
  • Must be visionary, business minded, and capable of establishing rapport between industry, stakeholders, and other universities.
  • Must have capacity to raise funds and other resources for research and other developmental activities of the University.
  • Must have good understanding of current developments and trends in university education at the national and international levels.
  • Must possess the capacity to manage and control crisis situations within the University.

Terms of Appointment

  • The appointment shall be for a tenure of four (4) years in the first instance and may be renewed, subject to satisfactory performance, for another four (4) years.
  • Salary and conditions of service attached to the position is very attractive.
