Job Description

The Finance Officer as the Chief Accounting Officer of the University and the Chief Financial Advisor to the Rector.

Job Functions
The Finance Officer’s main duties and responsibilities shall include the following:

• He/she has the general responsibility for the administration of the financial affairs of the University that will ensure financial well-being and will exercise direct supervision of all accounting officers.
• Is responsible for collecting University’s legitimate revenue.
• Exercise control over expenditure in line with the University’s objectives and budget.
• Prepares the annual budget of the University for presentation to the appropriate governing body for approval and implementation.
• Liaises with the University’s appointed external auditors to get the University’s financial statements audited.
• Ensures that the financial statements of the University are aligned with the statutes.
• Ensures that financial and the accounting records are maintained in compliance with the General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Performs other functions as may be given by the Rector and the Council Chairman

Required Skills or Experience

• The ideal candidate for the position of Finance Officer of the University will be required to demonstrate high qualities of sound judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, precision and professionalism in his/her area of specialization and must:
• Possess a good master’s degree in finance or accounting.
• Be a chartered professional accountant (CA(Gh), ACCA, CIMA, CPA)
• Have served as a Deputy Finance Officer in a University or cognate organisation for at least 4 years.

Terms of Appointment

• The appointment shall be for a tenure of four (4) years in the first instance and may be renewed, subject to satisfactory performance, for another four (4) years.
