Job Description

The Academic Quality Assurance Officer is responsible for ensuring academic programmes and processes meet regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and institutional policies.

Job functions
The Quality Assurance Officer’s main duties and responsibilities shall include the following:

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance policies and procedures for academic programs.
  • Conducting regular reviews and evaluations of curriculum, teaching methods, assessment practices, and student support services to ensure alignment with academic standards and best practices.
  • Collaborating with academic departments, faculty members, and administrative staff to identify areas for improvement and implement quality enhancement initiatives.
  • Facilitating accreditation processes and compliance with regulatory requirements by preparing documentation, coordinating site visits, and responding to inquiries from accrediting bodies.
  • Monitoring and analysing data related to student outcomes, programme effectiveness, and institutional performance to support evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Providing training, guidance, and support to faculty and staff on quality assurance practices, assessment techniques, and accreditation standards.
  • Serving as a liaison between the university and external stakeholders, including accrediting agencies, government agencies, and professional organizations, to ensure alignment with external standards and expectations.
  • Participating in committees, and working groups related to academic quality assurance, institutional effectiveness, and accreditation as assigned.
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports, and documentation related to quality assurance activities and outcomes for internal and external purposes

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • A master’s degree in education, higher education administration, educational planning, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance principles, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements in higher education.
  • Familiarity with assessment methodologies, curriculum design, and instructional best practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing higher education in Ghana.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in quality assurance, assessment, or institutional effectiveness within a higher education environment.
  • Experience with accreditation processes, preferably in a role involving preparation for or participation in accreditation reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate quality assurance policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Previous experience working collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and external stakeholders to achieve quality assurance goals.
  • Familiarity with educational technologies and learning management systems (LMS) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education settings.

Terms of Appointment

  • The appointment shall be full-time.
