Job Description

The Senior Accounts Officer role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices. The Senior Accounts Officer will be responsible to the Finance Officer but work closely with the finance team to maintain accurate financial records, assist in preparing financial reports, and support the university's financial planning and budgeting processes.

Job Functions

  • Undertake day-to-day financial transactions and ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial activities as required by the Finance Officer.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Assist in the development and management of the university’s annual budget.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Processing of invoices, expense claims, and other financial transactions.
  • Prepare for and take part in internal and external audits.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for audit purposes.
  • Prepare payroll to ensure accurate and timely payment of salaries and benefits.
  • Utilize financial software and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in an educational institution.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

Terms of Appointment

  • The appointment shall be full-time.
