Job Description

The Facility/Estate Manager is responsible for overseeing the management, maintenance of the university’s facilities and estates. This role involves ensuring that all physical infrastructure and related services are functioning efficiently and effectively to support the university’s academic and administrative activities. The Facility/Estate Manager will work closely with various departments to ensure a safe, secure, and conducive environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Job Functions

  • Oversee the daily operations of the university’s buildings and grounds.
  • Ensure that all facilities are well-maintained, clean, and in good repair.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all university facilities.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the university’s physical infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement security policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards or security breaches.
  • Oversee the work of external contractors and service providers.
  • Plan and oversee construction, renovation, and refurbishment projects.
  • Promote sustainable practices in the management of university facilities.
  • Implement energy-saving measures and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
  • Supervise and support the facilities management team, including maintenance staff, cleaners, and security personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
  • Prepare and submit reports on facility operations and project progress.
  • Liaise with university departments to understand and address their facility-related needs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty regarding facility issues and updates

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Estate Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in facilities or estate management, preferably in an educational institution.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in the use of facilities management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Terms of Appointment

  • The appointment shall be full-time or part time.
