Job Summary
The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and machinery. The ideal candidate will play a critical part in minimizing equipment downtime and extending asset life through preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation and Assembly: Install new mechanical equipment, components, and systems according to blueprints and technical specifications. Assemble and test parts to ensure they function correctly.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine preventative maintenance on machinery, including lubrication, cleaning, and parts replacement. Diagnose mechanical problems and perform necessary repairs, such as replacing faulty parts or adjusting components.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot issues with mechanical systems using diagnostic tools and problem-solving skills. Analyze equipment performance and make adjustments to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Inspections and Testing: Conduct regular inspections to ensure all equipment complies with safety standards and operational requirements. Test machinery and components to verify they are working properly after installation or repair.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Document parts used, hours worked, and any issues encountered during a job.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all company safety protocols and industry regulations. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and maintain a clean and safe work area.
Required Skills or Experience
Qualifications
- HND/Degree or Vocational Certification in Mechanical Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience in a mechanical, maintenance, or repair role (2+ years preferred).
- A strong understanding of mechanical principles, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
- Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
- Skilled in using a wide range of hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment.
- The ability to lift heavy equipment, stand for long periods, and work in various physical positions.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate repairs and safe operation of equipment.
- Good communication skills to report issues, explain repairs to supervisors, and work effectively with team members.
