Job Description

Job Purpose
- Responsible for the operation of the dispensary and other drug related activities including processing andfilling of valid prescriptions from the Mine Clinic and other sources as may be determined by themanagement of CNML.
- Provide routine pharmaceutical services to aid in the investigation, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, andprevention of disease conditions among employees of CNML and associates.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Establish a system to ensure the continuous sterilization of surfaces and equipment used in the processing ofmedicines to be administered to patients.
- Dispense prescribed medications to patients by compounding, reconstituting, packing, and labellingpharmaceutical products.
- Sort, stock, and appropriately label medications, and monitor inventory of medicines to ensure continuousavailability of essential medications for the timely and accurate management of medical conditions that maybe present at the mine clinic.
- Receive and review the validity of prescriptions, including electronic ones, ensuring accurate, consistent, andcomplete client/disease/drug information before dispensing medicines.
- Counsel patients appropriately on adherence to safety to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
- Liaise with medical doctor to monitor and eliminate occurrences of wrong prescriptions and/or wrong drugadministrations, including instructions given to patients and compliance.
- Regularly conduct a rational use of medicine survey within the mine clinic to ensure patients receivemedications appropriate to their clinical needs, in doses that meet their requirements, for an adequate period,and at the lowest cost to them.
- Develop and maintain a monthly drug bulletin that should guide prescription patterns at the outpatientdepartment.
- Institute a pharmacovigilance system that will ensure an early detection, assessment, understanding andprevention of adverse effects following drug administration or any other drug-related problem.
- Ensure all Pharmaceutical policies, regulations, safety guidelines, and Infection prevention and controlguidelines are followed, and a clean dispensary environment is maintained always.
- Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the Supervisor.
Required Skills or Experience
Minimum qualification (s)
- Diploma in Pharmacy Technician from a reputable training institution.
- A qualified Pharmacy Technician with a valid license from the Pharmacy Councilof Ghana.
Experience (Minimum)
- Minimum of three (3) years post-qualification working experience in a reputable health institution in Ghana.
Knowledge (In-depth)
- Sound knowledge of principles and standards guiding pharmaceutical practicein Ghana.
- Good knowledge of measurement, storage, and dosage calculation of medicines of different formulations.
- Good knowledge of medical terminology, including what is used in prescriptions.
- Knowledge of health safety, cleanliness and infection control policies andregulations.
Skills
- Familiar with various software for managing pharmaceutical and other healthdata.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability tointeract with people of diverse cultures and levels.
- The ability to keep a schedule to run planned preventive maintenance ofequipment to prevent frequent breakdowns.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record, including useof Microsoft Word, Excel, and other database management tools.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with people of diverse cultures.
- Skills and/or experience in online prescription systems will be an addedadvantage.
