Together, we develop solutions in education, economic opportunities, and empowerment to overcome inequality and exclusion for youth around the world, particularly young women and young refugees. WUSC currently works in 25 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, with an annual budget of approximately CAD $40 million. We have over 90 staff in our Ottawa office, and over 200 people overseas implementing 16 development projects in collaboration with donors such as Global Affairs Canada, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, Mastercard Foundation and the African Development Bank.

Calling for Cohort 2 Applications

ACTIVATE Scholarship Program

The ACTIVATE Scholarship Program, a collaboration between World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and the Mastercard Foundation, is now accepting applications for its next cohort. The scholarship is designed to empower young Ghanaians and refugees through inclusive, marketrelevant training in agriculture and adjacent trades. The program especially prioritizes young women, persons with disabilities and refugees and displaced persons, helping them overcome financial barriers and access sustainable livelihoods through Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET).

Required Skills or Experience

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must:

  • Be between 18 and 32 years old.
  • Be a needy Ghanaian national, person with disability, refugee, or forcibly/internally displaced person.
  • Have at least a Junior High School Certificate or its equivalent.
  • Show potential for academic success and interest in agriculture or adjacent trades areas.
  • Obtain an admission offer from one of the participating ATVET institutions

NB: Prospective applicants must have applied or should apply for admission to any of the ATVET institutions listed below. This scholarship is designed to provide opportunities for qualified youth to enroll in and pursue 1-year, 2-year, or 3-year Certificate, Diploma, or HND programs respectively, at accredited Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) institutions below.

What the Scholarship Covers

  • Full or partial tuition, training fees, licensing and certification costs.
  • Provision of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Monthly Stipends.
  • Life Insurance coverage.
  • Access to mentoring/coaching services in our Agripreneurship Centers.
  • Reasonable accommodation for learners with disability based on needs
  • Local solutions to assist Refugees and Displaced learners in the form of psycho-social support on need basis

Expectations and Responsibilities of Scholars

  • Maintain the ATVET institution’s minimum GPA and demonstrate academic progress and good conduct.
  • Attend class and complete semester course work including projects.
  • Undertake Workplace Experience Learning/Internships during school holidays.
  • Complete the class attendance sheet and collaborate with program staff on monitoring visits.

Note: Renewal of the scholarship is subject to performance, participation in course work, and continued eligibility.

  • Letter of recommendation from your current institution, only for continuing students.
  • Scanned copy of Ghana Card/ NHIS Card/Voter’s ID Card/ Student ID Card (clearly visible).
  • Academic transcripts for continuing students from their current institution.
  • BECE results or equivalent or transcript from previous school for new students
  • If you are a refugee or displaced person, you will be required to upload a copy of the UNHCR ID/Letter.
  • MTN MOMO Number that bears your name on your Ghana card or nominated numbers for Refugees and displaced persons.
