- REPORTS TO: School Principal
PURPOSE OF POSITION
English teachers create lesson plans and teach those plans to the entire class, individually to students or in small groups, track student progress and present the information to parents, create tests, create and reinforce classroom rules, work with school administration prepare students for standardized tests, and manage students outside the classroom, such as in school hallways, detention, etc.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the schools
- Academic learning objectives and curriculum program.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, and materials that reflect understanding of the needs of students.
- Arrange for student activities, assignments and ensure instructional practice is current with "best practices" learning theory research.
- Ensure instructional practice and curriculum foster critical inquiry, analysis and evaluation.
- Construct and/or use courses, units, and lessons that integrate knowledge.
- Prepare lessons that reflect differentiation in student learning styles and abilities.
- Foster a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for spiritual, physical and social development of students.
- Create opportunities for students to assume responsibility for and be actively engaged in their learning.
- Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities and achievement of the individual students and groups of students;
- Conduct and maintain ongoing assessments of student achievement and behavior, both formative and summative, using appropriate assessment instruments and methods.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Keep unit and lesson plans informative and electronically maintained and updated in a timely fashion.
- Contributing to the professional development of new teachers and student teachers according to arrangements agreed with the Head of School;
Required Skills or Experience
- Must have Masters/Bachelors with focus in English or related field
- Three years of demonstrated, effective teaching experience in English and related grade levels preferred

- Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
- Must have excellent communication and writing skills
