Job Description

  • Department: Maintenance
  • Reports to:    Maintenance Manager
  • Direct reports: Electrical Engineers, Electrical Engineering Technicians, HVAC Technicians, Electrical Engineering Attendants and Boiler Operators
Job Purpose:
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of all Electrical engineering technicians, HVACR Technicians, Electrical Engineering Technician Assistants and Boiler Operators engaged in various capacities of work being it installations made during construction, maintenance and repair of all related processing plants, machinery and equipment, power and lighting of factories.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions of electrical distribution systems including motors, electric controllers, transmitters, recorders, electro-mechanical drive elements (VSD/VFD, etc.) using the appropriate test instruments.
  • Plans wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, pumps, gearboxes, mixers, conveyors, compressors, fuse boxes and other fixed plant equipment within technical skill or competence and ensures completed work conforms to regulatory codes 
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties. 
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. 
  • Establishes or adjusts work orders and procedures to meet schedules.
  • Estimate materials, makes purchase requests, and inspects materials supplied. 
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew. 
  • Evaluates production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems. 
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. 
  • Maintains time and maintenance records. 
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of other departments. 
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws. 
  • Interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problem.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized educational institution
  • A minimum of three (3) years working experience in a similar role. 
  • Written and spoken English 

Technical and Behavioural Competencies 

  • Knowledge in Computer logic and programming/Programmable logic Control (PLC). 
  • Knowledge of inspection and identification of all electrical power distribution systems (110V, 220V, 380V, 440V, 1100kVA, 3300kVA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge in basic office computer software, e.g. word processing, email, and spreadsheets
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or employees of organization. 
  • Ability to initiate action in solving problems 
  • Ability to work with people on individual and team basis with limited problems arising
  • Ability to identify and set priorities for workloads.
  • Ability to work well for long hours under pressure but not compromising on effectiveness and efficiency
