Job Description

RISE is a five-year global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and USAID—that works with countries to achieve a shared vision of attaining and maintaining epidemic control, with stronger local partners capable of managing and achieving results through sustainable, self-reliant and resilient health systems. The project is led by Jhpiego with the following partners: ICAP at Columbia University, Management Sciences for Health, Anova, BAO Systems, Johns Hopkins University Centre for Public Health and Human Rights, and Mann Global Health.

With funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), RISE is working in selected countries, including Ghana, to address the COVID-19 pandemic. In line with ministry of health priorities, the project, is planning to rollout national vaccination plans, including ensuring health care workers are prepared to implement and monitor this plan; providing focused and clinically relevant capacity building for clinicians providing COVID-19 case management.

We are currently looking for dynamic individuals to fill the following position:  Biomedical Engineering Officer – LOX

  • Duration: 1 year
  • Reports to Oxygen Lead

Scope of Work
The biomedical engineering officer will work on supporting the implementation of the liquid oxygen installations in designated health facilities. S/he will also be required to support project implementation of other oxygen projects under RISE.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support for the implementation of the liquid oxygen infrastructure development activities
  • Support development, review of equipment to be procured for the LOX project,
  • Support the development of the implementation and training plan for beneficial health facilities
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the progress of LOX project implementation and provide technical-level assistance to oxygen lead
  • Provide support for equipment Installation and calibration, end-user training (clinical and non-clinical staff), commissioning, and maintenance of oxygen infrastructure
  • Provide support on other oxygen projects including leading the implementation of projects as determined by the oxygen lead
  • Undertake other tasks that may be assigned.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in biomedical engineering, Master of Science preferred
  • Relevant experience in the biomedical field
  • Technological and computer proficiency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Confident in performing statistical analysis
  • Organized, focused, and detailed oriented
  • Experience working in a lab and/or hospital preferred
  • Excellent independent worker and collaborator
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, multitasking and communication skills and a high capacity for work, able to overcome stress and work under pressure, with a high degree of flexibility
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively in Ghana project target provinces
  • Ability to identify solutions for complex problems
  • Strong skills in facilitation, coordination and orientation
  • Ability to manage and facilitate trainings
  • Critical-thinking skills to compare and contrast your options and choose the most viable one so you can solve problems and make decisions
