BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT The purpose of the Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA) is to prevent the collapse of the small pelagic fishery sector in Ghana while improving the supplemental livelihoods, resilience, and food security. This activity seeks to improve supplemental livelihoods and resilience measures for fishing communities, particularly for women and youth; facilitate private sector engagement and market linkages in the fishing sector; strengthen government capacity in policymaking, regulation, and enforcement; strengthen improved science and research, including data for policy and management decisions; and empower key stakeholders to effect change. Cutting across all these strategic approaches is the behavioral change approach that GFRA will deploy to ensure that fisheries stakeholders, especially fishers living in and around GFRA sites, adopt sustainable fishing practices, improve handling and production of fish products, and address challenges such as gender-based violence and child labor. This task order will support efforts to develop communications strategies and products to reduce illegal fishing, address gender-based violence and child labor, promote safe and hygienic handling of fish and promote consumption of safe fish.
