Job Description

  • Direct Reports: Senior Geologists, Senior Resource Geologists, Database Geologists, Senior Mine Geos, etc.

 

Job Purpose
The Geology Superintendent will efficiently and effectively lead the geological activities for our exploration projects and support mining projects. This role is responsible for managing geological teams, overseeing exploration programs, reporting on statutory requirements, ensuring accurate resource modeling, development, control, and supporting the overall operational objectives of the company (Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd and Cardinal Resources Ghana Ltd) .

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise, review and advise on planning, designing, budgeting and implementation of exploration programs (including regional exploration and near mine exploration) to discover new resources and extend existing ones. Development and Management of Mineral Resource in Cardinal Namdini property license, mining lease and exploration projects.
  • Oversee all drilling contractors on exploration and mine operational sites and ensure quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) protocols and all SOP related to drilling/logging/sampling are strictly followed.
  • Monitor project progress, control expenditures, report on performance and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Oversee and verify models and interpretations built by Resource Geologist. Update or create 3D lithostructural models and mineralized models. Ensure geological model is continuously updated to provide support or insights to generating drilling targets, through the integration of all mine and exploration geological data.
  • Involve in Mineral Resource disclosures, including coordination of the preparation of the competent persons report for the Business Unit and signs off the Mineral Resources portion of the report.
  • Review and update resource estimates and technical reports in compliance with JORC, NI 43-101, or other relevant standards and provide accurate and timely geological reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Drafting, reviewing and submit monthly, yearly, and quarterly reports to regulatory and statutory bodies.
  • Development and implementation of geological policies, procedures and systems in both exploration and mining operations. Administer, train, and ensure that all corporate governances regarding budgeting, administration, human resources, are adhered to.
  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety and environmental stewardship within the geology team ensure all geological activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations (HSE) within the discipline are in place and maintained at all levels.
  • Collaborate with various functional departments including CSR, Engineering, and HSE teams to coordinate all aspects of the geological resource and reserve processes pertaining to all aspects of the project. Support
  • Mine Technical Team in mine development and operational and work closely with the mine planning and engineering teams to integrate geological data and understanding into mining operations.
  • Set up set skills, conduct performance (KPI) evaluation and appraisal for staff in the discipline. Lead, mentor, and develop team of senior geologists, exploration geologist, mine geologist and geological technicians.
  • Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the MRM manager or Vice President.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum qualification (s)

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Geology/ Geological Engineering/ Earth Science or relevant geological discipline.
  • MSc in Geology desirable.
  • Mincom Statutory Certification for Geologist (if available).
  • GHIG/AUSIMM/AIG / SAIMM / WAIMM affiliated or similar industry member is desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in mineral resource management with at least
  • 7 years in superintendent level role or management role in exploration and/or mining phase.
  • A proven track record in exploration discovery and gold mining operations.

Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of mine geology data collection methods, production planning and open pit mine operation and design.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D mining software packages including statistical analysis of geo-data, wireframing, geo-statistics, and block modelling.
  • Strong understanding of resource estimation methodologies and reporting standards (e.g., JORC, NI 43-101) with basic knowledge of non-linear methods.
  • Knowledge of rock blasting techniques and their impact on ore recovery and waste management.

Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Thorough understanding of public reporting codes with attention to detail and accuracy. Sense of Responsibility and Commitment.
  • Advanced presentation, mentorship, resource estimation. validation communication and management skills.
  • Thorough understanding of sampling theory and practice.
  • Stockpile management and Grade reconciliation practices etc.
  • Technical Report Writing.
  • Good computer skills, like Database management, excellent skills in Datamine/ Micomine/leapfrog etc. software.
