Job Description

  • Department: Administration-H&S
  • Reports To: Deputy HR/Health & Safety Manager
  • Location Onsite at HPW Fresh and Dry Ltd, Adeiso, E/R.
Job Purpose
The general purpose of this role is to ensure that the organisation complies with all health and safety regulations and create a safe working environment for employees, visitors, and contractors.  

Job Duties 
Health and Safety
  • Follow strictly the company’s Health and Safety policies and procedures in the performance of duties. 
  • Assist H&S Manager in all health and safety audits, both internal and external.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Fire Warden Team, First Aid Team, and Health and Safety Committee.
  • Lead the Health and Safety and Fire Warden Teams to undertake periodic fire drills as directed in the emergency response plan. 
  • Assist in designing, coordinating, and undertaking all Health and Safety Training Programs. 
  • Lead the Health and Safety Team to undertake Risk Assessments.
  • Coordinate and report on environmental monitoring such as noise, ventilation, temperature, etc. 
  • Inspect the workplace, including any article, substance, plant, machinery or health and safety equipment at such intervals as may be agreed upon with management.
  • Monitor and ensure the safe use of PPE at the workplace.
  • Generate regular incident / accident investigation and trend analysis from the database and providing reports.
  • Lead incident investigations and inspections at offsite locations, i.e. farms, etc.
  • Periodically undertake Health and Safety surveys, and implement suggestions for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate activities of external Health Providers and ensure they are delivering per the terms of their contract.
  • Track all long-term illness employees under the management of HPW and ensure an early and safe return to work. 
  • Coordinate the accurate documentation of employee health data as required.
  • Maintain sick bays, ensuring they are always kept in good condition and are not used for inappropriate activities by anyone.  
  • Investigate employees’ complaints on health and safety.
  • Review the effectiveness of health and safety measures. 
First Aid
  • Provide first aid within the organization to all persons when required.
  • Document, maintain and keep records of first aid offered.
  • Report any deficiencies in the First Aid service to the Health & Safety Manager.
  • Arrange prompt and appropriate referral of casualties if required.
General
  • Communicate effectively with personnel at all levels.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with Management, H&S Team, and all employees. 
  • Undertake all other H&S duties as reasonably requested.
  • Departmental Relations Maintains contact with departmental heads and staff
  • Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of walking for safety inspections / sitting to use computer

Required Skills or Experience

EDUCATION & COMPETENCIES
Required Education, Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • NEBOSH IGC or equivalent degree/qualification in Health and Safety
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant working experience preferably in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Knowledge of BS ISO 45001:2018 
  • Adaptability and ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Interpersonal skills and people management skills
  • Ability to train, develop and motivate team
  • Flexible, methodical, highly motivated effective team player; able to learn and assimilate new information and maintain confidentiality.
