Job Description

Recruitment of ASBC team
The USAID’s Accelerating Social and Behavior Change Activity (ASBC) is a five-year $26.1million project which continues USAID’s long investment in the Ghana Health Service (GHS). It will enable Ghana’s Health Promotion Division (HPD) to achieve its Strategic Objective to “lead SBC efforts using tested mass media and community engagement tools,” and to “magnify Communicate for Health learnings” whereby target populations (women of reproductive age, newborns, children <5, adolescents/youth <25) “sustainably adopt healthy behaviors and practices, including timely use of health services and products” (ASBC Goal) nationally and in 17 districts in Northern Ghana – where the most severe health disparities persist. ASBC activities are designed to promote sustainability – of a capacitated HPD (Result 1), of health-seeking behavior change and impact at individual and community levels (Result 2), and of private enterprise and CSO support for the public health agenda (Result 3). Norsaac is responsible for result 2 and shall sub grant to other CSOs to deliver on the result. The program is recruiting experienced staff to occupy the positions of; Community Engagement Advisor.

The Community Engagement Advisor will be seconded full-time to the ASBC project and will lead the coordination and execution of community-level SBC activities in collaboration with national, regional and district-level Health Promotion Officers. She/He shall provide technical support on community management to HPD and key stakeholders to the ASBC program. The Community Engagement Advisor will report to the ASBC Deputy Chief of Party and will coordinate community-level SBC activities across the project. He/She will ensure community engagement quality standards are met and will assist in data collection, report writing, and other duties as assigned. This position will be based in the Health Promotion Office in Tamale.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Master’s degree in public health, Development Studies, Public Policy, Sociology or related field and 4 to 7 years of experience in development programmes at the managerial level;
  • Strong and proven experience in Public Health and effective management in long-term development Health programmes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of Ghana Health Service and the CHPS system.
  • Ability to work with significant levels of autonomy and make quick and concise decisions;
  • Politically astute, with a good understanding of key external organizations, how they operate and make decisions, and the country's development context.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in working with donors
