Job Description

Project Planning and Implementation 

  • Provide technical leadership to BORDER Project in planning implementation, monitoring and evaluating of project interventions
  • Prepare and regularly monitor annual budgets in line with project annual plans as required by WV Ghana or Donor.
  • Ensure the timely preparation and submission of procurement documents, financial reports and disbursement requests
  • Guide the project team on risk management processes to assess and manage the risks of potential alliances
  • Work closely with key project team and partners to stabilise fragile border regions like the Upper West and Upper East Regions, aiming to prevent conflict and promote social cohesion.
  • Support the development of socio-economic sustainable initiatives project communities.
  • Solicit for technical advice on food Security, environmental risks, biodiversity, climate change etc.
  • Document case studies in programming that clearly demonstrate both social transformation and sustainable development outcomes of the interventions.
  • Conduct capacity assessments and facilitate institutional capacity building for partners

Enhanced Technical leadership and support

Annual Project Plans developed timely and in alignment with WVG and donor standards

Timely and accurate financial reports submitted.
Project budget developed and implemented timely with budget Burn rate of  -+10%
Well-developed DIPs that is aligned with WVG and donor standards
Social and economic infrastructure human rights, social cohesion, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding.
Well documented and disseminated case studies

Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, Learning and Knowledge Management

  • Use innovative approaches to monitor and evaluate performance, effectiveness/impacts of proposed   interventions
  • Conduct monitoring visits to project activities to assess progress against targets and to provide coaching and direction to activities in areas where improvements are needed.
  • Ensure the documentation of lessons learned, best practices success stories and project impacts for sharing at internal and external knowledge sharing forums
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports that meet donor requirements.
  • Coordinate all evaluation activities and studies such as; baseline, gender , conflict analysis and end line 
  • Conduct research related to social and economic infrastructure, peace building and social cohesion
  • Lead periodic review of BORDER project to regularly update key stakeholders
  • Ensure effective project reporting, communication and knowledge management on BORDER Project in alignment with donor requirements
  • Identify emerging project risks and respond to the risk appropriately

Compliance with WVI standards, policies, guidelines, approaches and strategies.

Partnering, Networking, External Engagements and Communication

  • Identify and build strategic linkages, relations, collaborations and networks with partners and other stakeholders in planning and implementation.
  • Build and maintain cordial relationships with the District Assemblies, decentralised agencies of governments, UN agencies, private sector and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the BORDER project.
  • Increase the visibility of the project through engagement with relevant stakeholders
  • Conduct frequent monitoring to generate information on project implementation.
  • Establish effective partnerships/relationship with zonal or district level stakeholders, networks, coalitions, farmer groups or CVA working groups to transform dialogue among them
  • Build and strengthen effective relations with networks and promote cross learning of similar projects
  • Participate in networking meetings and guide members to obtain mutually beneficial and optimal ways to enhance livelihood activities.
  • Explore potential linkages and build alliances when appropriate to ensure optimal program quality.
  • Attend national and international organization events. Represent BRDER project in foras, meetings, workshops, conferences and contribute to technical interactions and discussions.
  • Regularly meet with like-minded international and national agencies in-country
  • Ensure communities participation of youth and community leaders in social cohesion and peace building

  • Build capacity of team members and motivate them to work effectively and efficiently 
  • Manage a team of 5 direct technical staff
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Technical Staff on BORDER Project including reviews of annual Performance Agreements and annual Appraisals in collaboration with respective matrix supervisors; supporting staff’s learning and professional development
  • Promote a culture of respect and team work in the program
  • Cultivate and support diversity within BORDER team

Foster an environment of High morale, high performing and motivation among the BORDER team
Capacity of BORDER staff, strengthened to effectively deliver

Grants Resource Acquisition 

  • Identify problems and opportunities within project locations and formulate them into concepts and proposal for donor
  • Participate in the development of concept notes/proposals for resource acquisition especially livelihood interventions
  • Deliver quality programming to ensure strong technical branding/niche created from BORDER interventions 
  • Build and strengthen relationship with private sector players or donors to explore funding opportunity
  • Generate evidence from our work in the field to attract donor funding
  • Work in collaboration with the NO team and WV Germany support office to position for and pursue opportunities in both development and humanitarian sectors

Developed proposals for livelihoods and sustainable economic development

New grants for BORDER project on social and economic infrastructure, human rights, social cohesion, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding intervention

Required Skills or Experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:

  • List academic requirements (if applicable), technical skills, or other knowledge required as a minimum qualification for this position.

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Master’s Degree in Rural Development, Development Studies, Project Management, Social sciences, international development or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of directly relevant professional experience in the area of local economic development /livelihood development, private sector engagement.
  • Experience working with private and public donors including foundations and corporates Working experience with Institutions involved in sustainable development/ community empowerment/ natural resource management
  • Previous experience as a Programme Manager with strong expertise in social and economic infrastructure, HEA, Climate Change and Peace Building Demonstrated management and supervisory skills
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and skills formally and informally to diverse audiences; desire and ability to mentor staff Proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience

List academic, technical skills or other knowledge preferred for this position.

  • Must be fluent in the English and French language background
  • Demonstrated strengths in relationship management

  • Able to work with a wide range of stakeholders including community-based organizations, local NGOs, local government and officials, donors, and colleagues
