  • REPORTS TO: General Manager

JOB PURPOSE
In this role, the Security Officer is to ensure the safety and security of people, property and information. The role involves protecting against unauthorized access, determining criminal activity and responding to emergencies. 
 
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Regular Patrols: Regularly walk around premises to monitor suspicious activity and potential threats.
  • Access Control: Manage entry and exit points, verify identities and credentials to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Incident Reporting: Document all incidents, observations, and security breaches for review and reporting.
  • Responding to Alarms: To respond to alarms and take appropriate action to ensure safety.
  • Enforcing Rules and Policies: Adhere to safety protocols and company policies.
  • Answering Enquiries: Provide information and assistance to employees and guests.
  • Directing Visitors/Guests: To direct visitors and guests to the appropriate location within the premises.
  • Maintaining the Environment: Ensure that the environment is safe, e.g. Lighting, water resources.
  • Traffic Control: Responsible for managing traffic and parking. 
  • Working Hours: A 12-hour shift system.

Required Skills or Experience

RELEVANT EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of SSSCE or WASSCE Certificate.
  • Proven experience as a Security Officer.
  • Observation and Situational Awareness: Ability to carefully observe surroundings, identify potential threats and be aware of the overall situation.
  • Communication Skills:  Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
  • Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze situations, identify problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Integrity and Ethics: Ability to uphold high ethical standards and maintain the integrity of their role.
  • Emergency Response: Timely response to emergencies, have knowledge of first aid, fire safety and other emergency protocols.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with security technologies, such as surveillance systems and alarms systems.
  • Teamwork: Ability to be a team-player and collaborate with other staff.
  • Conflict Resolution and De-escalation: Ability to handle confrontations calmly and de-escalate tense situations.
