Job Purpose

  • To oversee the maintenance, repair, and servicing of mobile equipment to ensure optimal performance, safety, and availability for operational vehicles and equipment
  • This role ensures efficient workshop operations by coordinating technicians, managing resources, and enforcing maintenance standards.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily maintenance and repair activities of mobile equipment, including haul trucks, loaders, dozers, graders, and excavators, to ensure reliability and availability.
  • Plans and schedules preventive and corrective maintenance tasks in coordination with maintenance planners and operations.
  • Leads and manages a team of technicians and artisans, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to work standards and safety protocols.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations and promotes a strong safety culture within the workshop.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots complex mechanical and electrical issues to support quick and effective resolution.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records and reports using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Coordinates with stores and procurement teams to ensure availability of parts, tools, and materials needed for maintenance activities.
  • Implements continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment uptime, reduce breakdowns, and optimize maintenance processes.
  • Performs any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the Supervisor.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum qualification (s)

  • Must have an HND/Degree in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering or a related field.
  • Mincom Competency Certificate, minimum of an Inspecting Engineer.
  • Registered member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers will be an advantage.

Experience (Minimum)

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in mobile equipment and vehicle
    maintenance within the mining or any well-established industry in a
    supervisory role.
    • Strong background in maintaining (Toyota/Pow) light vehicles and equipment

Knowledge (In-depth)

  • Safety, Health, and Environmental Standards (SHE): In-depth knowledge of safety procedures, risk assessments, incident reporting, and compliance with mining or industrial SHE regulations.
  • Workshop Operations Management: Knowledge of workshop workflows, job allocation, resource planning, safety procedures, tool control, and maintenance documentation.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS): Familiarity with systems like SAP, Pronto, or similar platforms for tracking work orders, equipment history, and inventory.
  • Parts and Inventory Control: Understanding of spare parts identification, ordering processes, and stock level management to support maintenance readiness.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Skills in supervising technical teams, mentoring artisans and apprentices, and ensuring high performance and discipline in the workshop.
  • Technical Report Writing and Communication: Ability to prepare maintenance reports, failure analysis, and communicate effectively with other departments,OEMs, and management.

Skills

  • Ability to use of KPIs to track vehicle/equipment availability, maintenance effectiveness, and workforce productivity.
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance: Skilled in planning and executing maintenance schedules to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Spare parts coordination: Ensuring critical spares availability and managing inventory with the warehouse team.
  • Supervisory skills and good contractor management skills
Leadership and behavioral attributes
  • A Mobile Workshop Supervisor should demonstrate strong leadership, decision- making, and team management skills, ensuring productivity and accountability.
  • Must exhibit integrity, discipline, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and safety.
  • Effective communication and adaptability are key to coordinating across departments and handling dynamic work conditions.
  • Strong analytical thinking and rapid decision-making in high-pressure operational environments.
  • Set performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and develop team capabilities through coaching and training.
