Underground Mining Alliance Akyem. (“UMAA”) is a Joint Venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International carrying out underground development and production works for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.

 

Job Description

The Loader Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of underground load–haul–dump (LHD) equipment. The role plays a key function in both development and production activities, including bogging broken ore or waste, loading trucks, and maintaining underground infrastructure. This position directly contributes to achieving production targets while upholding stringent safety and environmental standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Operating a jumbo drill rig to drill holes in rock faces for blasting.
  2. Operate underground LHD (bogger) equipment to move broken rock, clean drawpoints, backfill voids, and load trucks
  3. Adhere strictly to all mine site safety, environmental, and isolation procedures, including tag-in/tag-out processes.
  4. Conduct thorough pre-start inspections and routine equipment monitoring to ensure safe and optimal machine performance
  5. Perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance reporting, and equipment care duties
  6. Work from shift instructions, load plans, or verbal guidance to complete bogging and loading activities accurately and on time.
  7. Accurately complete shift reports and logbooks as required
  8. Assist with scaling, barricading, and ventilation control as required in accordance with site procedures
  9. Remove debris and maintain clean and accessible work areas to minimize delays and ensure safety.
  10. Communicate clearly with truck drivers, jumbo operators, charge-up crews, and supervisors to coordinate activities and ensure efficient cycle times
  11. Monitor ground conditions and identify any geotechnical hazards or changes in conditions; report concerns immediately

Required Skills or Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible experience in a similar role, preferably in a gold mining environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or related field or
  • Minimum of a High School Certificate (WASSCE) with technical or vocational training or certification in underground production roles.
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and able to drive manual SUV.
  • Must be able to operate and have experience in operating Jumbo equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to Jumbo Operating.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist with varied tasks and responsibilities.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
  • Must demonstrate strong work ethics and be able to communicate courteously with co-workers.
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and have the desire to learn and achieve.
  • Ability to workday and night rotation.
  • Good verbal and written communication in English.
