HerStart: Innovate the Future Program
HerStart is a YCI initiative advancing gender equality, innovation and economic empowerment on a global scale. Through the HerStart: Innovate the Future program, YCI delivers dynamic entrepreneurship and leadership training, mentorship and seed funding for young women to build businesses with positive community impact in Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda. We co-design and co-implement HerStart with local partners in each country, who contribute their unique expertise and advance their own organizational learning. We leverage the energy and skills of Canadian volunteers to further our impact, while enhancing their own personal and professional development. Supportive ecosystems are activated locally to fuel collaboration, reduce silos and dismantle gender barriers beyond HerStart.

Job Description

  • Location: Tamale, Ghana
  • Contract Type: Temporary, Part-Time
  • Contract Length: 3 Months
  • Compensation: GHS 5,000.00/month
  • Commitment: 12 days per month (approx. 3 days/week)
  • Start Date: August 2025

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Country Manager, Ghana, the Project Officer role is key to the delivery of YCI HerStart’s training activities in Tamale. Key responsibilities include supporting training logistics in collaboration with YCI staff and partners, training data collection, coordination of support for young women entrepreneurs receiving the HerStart Catalyst Fund, and engagement of Canadian volunteers to support project outcomes. YCI is seeking a highly organized individual with strong communication skills and digital literacy to take on this 3-month opportunity.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Training and Entrepreneurship Project Support: Support coordination of training logistics and participant recruitment; Coordinate activities for entrepreneurs receiving the Catalyst Fund including coaching, mentorship and fund application development; Ensure maintenance of training attendance records.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Support orientation process of Canadian volunteers arriving in Ghana; Engage skills-based Canadian volunteers and leverage their expertise in the development and delivery of project initiatives.
  • Monitoring, Evaluating and Learning Support: Support ongoing data collection needs in Ghana with training participants, including conducting follow up surveys with program graduates.

Required Skills or Experience

  • You are a self-starter with 3+ years in training project support, ideally within the entrepreneurship and livelihood development sector;
  • You are talented at fostering relationships with young people;
  • You are passionate about investing in women and youth livelihoods, and inspired by the potential of innovation and entrepreneurship;
  • You thrive as a team member and work respectfully and inclusively with diverse stakeholders, including Canadian volunteers;
  • You demonstrate an integrated understanding of the principles of gender equality;
  • You are proficient in using digital tools such as Microsoft Outlook;
  • You are an effective communicator with excellent written and verbal English proficiency, and
  • You are a permanent resident or a Citizen of Ghana.
