The significance of efficient working capital management is considered as a vital corporate strategy in creating shareholders' wealth. Therefore, firms ought to keep an ideal level of working capital in order to maximize shareholders' value. Effective working capital management also serves as a measure for how efficiently a company is operating and how financially stable it is.

Poor management of working capital may trigger unexpected cash shortfalls that can cripple a firm's operations. This is because working capital management is a vital component of corporate finance and has a direct effect on the profitability and liquidity of the organization.

At the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Formulate appropriate working capital management policies to achieve corporate objectives.
  • Describe primary and secondary sources of liquidity and factors that influence a company's liquidity position;
  • Evaluate the choices of short-term funding available to a company and recommend a financing method.
  • Evaluate comparative working capital management policies and their impact on the firm's profitability, liquidity, risk and operating flexibility.
  • Assess the importance of effective working capital management and its role in meeting the firm's strategic objectives and its impact in value creation.
  • Apply corporate cash management, accounts receivable management, bank relations, and inventory management techniques to maximize the share holders' value.
  • Evaluate working capital effectiveness of a company based on its operating and cash conversion cycles and compare the company's effectiveness with that of peer companies;
  • Understand how to evaluate a company's liquidity and solvency position.
  • Identify the components of a cash forecast to be able to prepare a short-term (i.e., up to one year) cash forecast.
  • Understand the common types of short-term investments, and computing comparable yields on securities.
