Job Description

A social enterprise in the WASH sector is recruiting a Human Resource Officer to be based in Tamale.

  • Reports to: Senior Human Resource Manager
  • Start date: January 2022
  • Contract type: Full Time (Fixed Term)
  • Contract end date: March 2023 (subject to renewal)
  • Area of operation:Tamale with working visits to the organization’s operational regions.
Reporting line relationships:
i. Reports directly to the Senior Human Resource Manager.
ii. Work closely with senior management team and staff to provide HR related support and guidance.
General Job Description
Under the direction of the Director of People & Culture and direct supervision of the Senior Human Resource Manager, the Human Resource Officer will be responsible for the coordination, maintaining and updating staff support services to staff and support in building a healthy and thriving organizational culture and climate. The Human Resource Officer will be backstopping to facilitate general HR activities in the organization.
The Human Resource Officer role is a vital position ensuring efficient human resource administration to promote high productivity and conducive workplace atmosphere to achieve organizational and business objectives.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities (modifications may be made at any time):
  • Coordinate all recruitment, selection and onboarding activities in a timely manner in collaboration with hiring manager and relevant teams
  • At least 3 years practical experience in a similar position in a reputable in a supervisory role.
  • Facilitate effective and seamless onboarding and offboarding activities in collaboration with relevant supervisors and departments.
  • Prepare HR monthly report, quarterly census report to HQ and related HR activity reports.
  • Compile, update and file all HR activity documents including staff records on HR google drive, hard copies in the cabinet to facilitate third party audit held in a confidential manner.
  • Process contractors service fees and stipends schedules and ensure timely payments to beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate all HR related procurement activities and relevant payments to vendors in collaboration with the Procurement and Operations Manager.
  • Facilitate quarterly HR activities and documentation audit.
  • Ensure that all HR policies, guidelines and procedures are duly complied with and documented including timesheet policy, leave policy etc.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of all human resource functions including clerical and administrative support.
  • Handle employee request on all HR issues, processes, and laid down regulations.
  • Support in the implementation of staff engagement and HR related interventions.
  • Support in strengthening and deepening strategic relationships with service providers.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Human Resource Manager & Director of People & Culture.

Required Skills or Experience

i. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in human resource management or related field in a recognized university and/or professional certification.
ii. People oriented and results driven.
iii. Good active listening, negotiation and presentation skills.
iv. Good understanding of human resource functions including recruitment and selection, employee engagement, records administration etc.
v. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
vi. Appreciable knowledge of the labour law and HR best practices.
vii. Awareness of how to handle HR issues appropriately (confidentiality, data protection).
viii. Knowledge of HR systems and database such as Salesforce.
ix. Appreciable leadership skills.
x. Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
xi. Ability to work under intense pressure and maintain high standards of work.
xii. Should have a high level of empathy and patience.
xiii. Collaborative and thrives in a team environment where ideas build on one another.
xiv. Excited and open to new ideas and new ways of doing news.
xv. Demonstrate a high sense of responsibility, decorum, confidentiality, honesty, integrity and strong work ethics.
xvi. A high level of commitment to IDE vision, values and objectives.
xvii. Responsive, resourceful, proactive and high sense of professionalism.
xviii. Organized, confident and a self-motivator with analytical skills.
xix. Ability to speak any of the local dialects in the north will be an advantage.
xx. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft office suites.
