We bring together a diverse network of students, volunteers, schools, governments, and businesses who share this vision. Together, we develop solutions in education, economic opportunities, and empowerment to overcome inequality and exclusion for youth around the world, particularly young women and young refugees. WUSC currently works in 25 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, with an annual budget of approximately CAD $40 million. We have over 90 staff in our Ottawa office, and over 200 people overseas implementing 16 development projects in collaboration with donors such as Global Affairs Canada, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Mastercard Foundation and the African Development Bank.

Job Description

TERMS OF REFERENCE
CONSULTING ASSIGNMENT
 
  • LOCATION: REMOTE 
  • CONTRACT TERM: SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2021
  • REPORTING TO: Program Manager Ghana & Manager, Volunteer Mobilization
  • EXPECTED LEVEL OF EFFORT: 2 months full-time
  • HOURLY RATE: 150$ CAD/day (7hours)
 
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
Under the supervision of the WUSC Ghana Program Manager and the Manager, Volunteer Mobilization:
  • Map and identify Canadian and South-South* expatriate communities and networks (associations, academic networks, professional networks) for the purpose of recruiting skilled candidates for volunteer positions with WUSC based in Ghana.
  • Map and identify organizations/websites/networks (associations, academic networks, professional networks) for the purpose of recruiting skilled candidates from other developing countries for volunteer positions with WUSC based in Ghana the other African countries where WUSC operates (Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi)
  • Map and identify local job websites and social media sites that focus on job postings for international and national professionals in Ghana.
  • Ensure the active promotion of the Program and Volunteer Support Advisor (PVSA) volunteer assignment amongst Canadian communities networks residing in Ghana.
  • Liaise with NGOs, WUSC partner organizations and other relevant groups to identify Canadian expatriates and African ex-pat communities’ networks in Ghana
  • Procedure and requirements for acquiring a criminal record check. 
  • Additional elements as requested.  
*Note: South-South volunteers are defined as low or middle-income countries according to World Bank categories. Where legislation, policies or procedures differ based on the nationality of the volunteer, please provide information for Canadians and the 5 largest African expatriate community groups.
 
Deliverables 
  • Provide a list of all identified African expatriate community networks in Ghana with valid contact information for each, including email address, key contact person, website and social media links.  
  • Provide a list of all identified Canadian expatriate organizations present in Ghana with valid contact information for each, including email address, key contact person, website and social media links. 
  • Provide a list of local job websites and social media sites that focus on job postings for international professionals, with valid posting information, including any associated fees. 
  • Post the Program and Volunteer Support Advisor assignment and other priority volunteer assignments in identified networks with Volunteer Mobilization Team approval. 
  • Provide a list of names and contact information of all potential candidates to the volunteer mobilization team. 
  • Provide a list of organisations/websites/networks (associations, academic networks, professional networks) identified as being potential sources to recruit skilled candidates from Ghana for volunteer positions with WUSC based in the other African countries where WUSC operates (Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi)
