The History and Uses of the Occupational Outlook Handbook

Every two years, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) publishes a book called the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH). The book describes over 800 different occupations. For each vocation, it gives details of what workers do on the job, the working conditions, training and education required, and the prospects for the job. The Handbook is a massive publication with about 1300 pages. But who is the OOH designed for, and how do different groups within the labor market use it?
